tonight i did something stupid.
and of all people, i had to trust me.
and the cost was so much more than i could bear.
i let my mind wander for a bit, and what i see is not pretty. if i were there, i'd take that step forward. if it had been here, i'd let it glide across. if i were given a choice, i'd take the unholy one. i revel in the knowledge that i alone stand in my way, and that i am such a fragile creature. a sleight of hand, and i stand on the other side. a wisp of wind, and the will buckles.
warped as it sounds, i love that i did this stupid thing. i love that it made me depressed. i love that it crippled me a little more. i hate the tomorrows and tomorrow's tomorrows for their empty promises, but i love the endless tomorrows for exactly that; that they will break me even more.

giam herh
you know what they say...
cmon now, boys and girls, say it with me!
Xian Yu Fan Sheng
the saying literally means 'turning over salted fish'. now this is strange. what is that supposed to depict? maybe it's trying to say "if even the bleddy giam herh can come alive and flip over, i confirm can 'flip' and be a good person also".
get it? it means turning over a new leaf. someone like me can actually step into a sale, one that most girls wait long long and save up their little girls' pocket money for, and stroll out coolly without a Mango carrier on my arm. it's all bangkok's fault, really. when you've experienced buying pretty dangly earrings for as little as S$0.50 when most local shops here would charge you at least S$10 for, you dont really want to shop in singapore anymore.
just call me giam herh.

might there be a job for me that lets me read? to read for work or at least have time to read for leisure? is there anybody else out there who wants a job like tht too?
i can only think of a book column reviewer. but somehow, no thanks. too many books concerning politics and biographies of ppl i dont care about. and chick-lits. i can handle them in small amounts, but one Candace Bushnell semi-annually is about all i can take. honestly i couldnt bring myself to finish 'trading up' last year, and now for '4 blondes' my eyes actually glazed over in several parts of the book and i wound up speed-flipping. and did i ever mentioned that sophie kinsella's famous shopaholic series scares me? love the clothes, hate the hyperbolic bimbotic-ness of the protagonist. it's. just.too.much. and dont get me started on romance novels. why the obsession with pneumatic blondes? i quit, ok, i quit.
and i'll probably get fired as a book reviewer cos i'll pan dan brown. HA. he chunks too much.
im a book snob. i want content AND style.
why settle?

"Winnie
The name of Winnie creates a very versatile and creative nature. You are quick-minded and have the freedom of expression to mix easily with people. Because your feelings and desires are so changeable, you are never satisfied with conditions as they are. You have many ideas, plans, and ambitions, but too often they are for an easy way out of a difficulty or an easy way of making money. You seek change in order to have the opportunity for travel, new experiences, and new friends and associates. You find it difficult to systematize your efforts and to fulfil your obligations and plans as you are not inclined to apply yourself consistently to a job to reach your goals. Although you appear positive, you inwardly lack self-confidence and will-power. This name has caused you to feel unsettled emotionally and mentally, being too easily influenced through your emotional nature and by other people. The name makes it difficult for you to view life realistically, to be honest with yourself and with others. Instead, you live in your desires, longing for conditions and people to be as you would like them to be. Health weakness centres in the fluid functions: the kidneys, bladder, or bloodstream. Tension could also cause you to suffer with female problems. "
uh, okay.
get yours here.

"Sure it made you feel good. Drugs do too. Why don't you go do that as well? It really isn't that much of a difference and you'll probably not be hurting so many people as well."

it's Father's Day this sunday, and i can think of many things ill like to get my daddy. i have even made a list! ive only ever made two real lists (the xmas one was a JOKE ok?! jooooke. oh oh adrian can i borrow your "I KEED I KEED"?) one is a list of books i wanna read, and the second is a list of all the things i will get my family once i draw a decent salary. naturally they are things which run into hundreds or thousands of dollars which the folks at home will think twice before purchasing. that's the beauty of having a kid who earns her own keeps right? a kid like me wont think too hard before buying something for them... or anything at all for tht matter... *hides my face* i think what my daddy probably wants most now though, is for me to find a job. ugh.

one of the most disgusting creatures to walk this earth
i havent opened my book cupboard in 3 years.
it would be like taking a trip back through time, what with all the old books, stationery, photo albums and what-have-yous (i seriously can't remember). im hoping to unearth some old archie comics, yearbooks and old diaries with which to burn or else locked in a high-security vault.
but i dread the silverfish...
i f***ing hate silverfish!!!!
i hate them almost as much as i hate cockroaches!!
* * *
digression: have you guys seen that gawdawful baygon advertisement on SBS buses?! the entire exterior of the bus is overrun with thousands of *shudderrrr* cockroaches!! is this their idea of effective advertising?! ok, granted, i noticed the ad yea, but im forevermore going to associate baygon with icky, tasteless advertisements too. their previous ad was something similar, but with ants i think. and they have the gall to ask us to vote that abomination for best ad????? get a freaking CLUE ok?
breathe, win, breathe.
* * *
ok as i was saying...
the nasty thing about silverfish is that first of all, they are not silver, and secondly, they are most definitely not fish, otherwise they would never have a chance in hell to be freaking slithering around in my books.
i propose the mass extermination of silverfish! i doubt this will affect our delicate ecosystem seeing that silverfish eat paper, and paper dont bloody eat anything. and they can't have predators if they're always creeping in between pages right?
so who's with me here?!
ps. just found out tht silverfish eat alot of other things as well, and they do live in other habitats besides books. and they can live up to a year without food! gee, why don't they just push it a little and try for 5 years. maybe they'll starve and die out on their own. they'll be doing earth a favour and no one will miss them anyway.

Shoot!
together with the hosts, two panels of speakers, one filled with teenagers and the other with adults, bicker and squabble often heatedly over the topical issue of the episode.
and i think Quan Yifeng makes a good talkshow host. she speaks well (being borned taiwanese), dares to say just about anything and can be oh-so hilarious! :)
er. just saw the shots for next week's episode.. apparently SG's most famous (infamous?) blogger is gonna be one of the teen speakers.

what would you do?
- you could get into your possession, evidence so damning that it will most definitely destroy your relationship with tht person..
- it will destroy the relationships of tht person with many more other ppl..
- falling out with tht person is not an option, or rather, the last thing you would ever want..
- many ppl will get hurt..
- and the only person who might understand your predicament is not exactly on speaking terms with you anymore and you dont want to be a nuisance..
would you:
- get tht piece of evidence and find out once and for all..
- get tht piece of evidence and keep it for a day when you're brave enough to find out..
- not do anything, be left wondering and suspecting tht person forevermore..
a year ago i would've flat out wanted to know for sure. in fact, i would've gone out looking for evidence/more information.
then around this time last year, everything changed.
and i became someone who'd rather not know. not not know, but not wanting confirmation, because i already sort of know, just not in the colour details. and 'sort of knowing' is good enough because it proves and changes everything and nothing at the same time. what does knowing bring me? it changes nothing to the world. but it breaks me.
ps. i know what you're thinking, i know who you think im referring to. the answer is 'no'.
pps. and it's 'no' for your second guess too.

men & women
Remember the book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus"? Well, here's a prime example offered by an English professor at an American University.
"Today we will experiment with a new form called the tandem story. The
process is simple. Each person will pair off with the person sitting to his or
her immediate right. One of you will then write the first paragraph of a short
story. The partner will read the first paragraph and then add another
paragraph to the story. The first person will then add a third paragraph, and so
on back and forth. Remember to re-read what has been written each time
in order to keep the story coherent. There is to be absolutely NO talking and
anything you wish to say must be written on the paper. The story is over when
both agree a conclusion has been reached."
The following was actually turned in by two of my English students: Rebecca
- last name deleted, and Gary - last name deleted.
STORY:
(first paragraph by Rebecca)
At first, Laurie couldn't decide which kind of tea she wanted. The
chamomile, which used to be her favorite for lazy evenings at home, now reminded
her too much of Carl, who once said, in happier times, that he liked chamomile.
But she felt she must now, at all costs, keep her mind off Carl. His
possessiveness was suffocating, and if she thought about him too much her asthma
started acting up again. So chamomile was out of the question.
(second paragraph by Gary)
Meanwhile, Advance Sergeant Carl Harris, leader of the attack squadron now
in orbit over Skylon 4, had more important things to think about than the
neuroses of an air-headed asthmatic bimbo named Laurie with whom he had spent
one sweaty night over a year ago. "A.S. Harris to Geostation 17, he said into
his transgalactic communicator. "Polar orbit established. No sign of resistance
so far..." But before he could sign off, a bluish particle beam flashed out of
nowhere and blasted a hole through his ship's cargo bay. The force from the
direct hit sent him flying out of his seat and across the cockpit.
(Rebecca)
He bumped his head and died almost immediately but not before he felt one
last pang of regret for psychically brutalizing the one woman who had ever had
feelings for him. Soon afterwards, Earth stopped its pointless hostilities
towards the peaceful farmers of Skylon 4. "Congress Passes Law Permanently
Abolishing War and Space Travel," Laurie read in her newspaper one morning. The
news simultaneously excited her and bored her. She stared out the window,
dreaming of her youth, when the days had passed unhurriedly and carefree, with
no newspapers to read, no television to distract from her sense of innocent
wonder at all the beautiful things around her. "Why must one lose one's
innocence to become a woman?" she pondered wistfully.
(Gary)
Little did she know, but she had less than 10 seconds to live. Thousands of
miles above the city, the Anu'udrian mothership launched the first of its
lithium fusion missiles. The dim-witted wimpy peaceniks who pushed the
Unilateral Aerospace Disarmament Treaty through the congress had left Earth a
defenseless target for the hostile alien empires who were determined to destroy
the human race. Within two hours after the passage of the treaty the Anu'udrian
ships were on course for Earth, carrying enough firepower to pulverize the
entire planet. With no one to stop them, they swiftly initiated their diabolical
plan. The lithium fusion missile entered the atmosphere unimpeded. The
President, in his top-secret Mobile submarine headquarters on the ocean floor
off the coast of Guam, felt the inconceivably massive explosion, which vaporized
poor, stupid, Laurie and 85 million other Americans. The President slammed his
fist on the conference table. "We can't allow this! I'm going to veto that
treaty! Let's blow 'em out of the sky!"
(Rebecca)
This is absurd. I refuse to continue this mockery of literature. My writing
partner is a violent, chauvinistic semi-literate adolescent.
(Gary)
Yeah? Well, you're a self-centered tedious neurotic whose attempts at
writing are the literary equivalent of Valium. "Oh shall I have chamomile tea?
Or shall I have some other sort of F*CKING TEA??? Oh no, I'm such an air
headed bimbo who reads too many Danielle Steele novels."
(Rebecca)
Asshole.
(Gary)
Bitch.
(Rebecca)
Wanker.
(Gary)
Slut.
(Rebecca)
Get f*cked.
(Gary)
Eat shit.
(Rebecca)
F*CK YOU - YOU NEANDERTHAL!!!
(Gary)
Go drink some tea - whore.
(teacher)
A+ - I really liked this one.
