ignore me
"there's no one there that i'm interested in"
that's the best excuse i've heard so far from someone turning down an invitation. in fact, that's not an excuse; it's evidently a valid reason.
what do you say to that? it's at once succinct and brutal. and irrefutable.
what's worse than hating someone?
disregarding the person, that's what.
if imitation is the best form of flattery then ignorance must be the best form of disdain.
on a separate, but kinda related note, if you're the object of someone's loathing, if someone is plotting against you (and you're sure you're not being paranoid) or bitching behind your back, take heart my dear.
someone thinks you're important enough to be worth all that effort.

schoool! woohoo!
im soooo excited about going back to school! i cant believe im saying this esp since the 'school' in question is Republic of Boonlay. but yes, it's true! maybe it's cos im meeting some friends in the newly-opened McDonalds in campus first tht makes it seem more like an outing than school-school yknow? or maybe it's cos all the whining abt having to start working in a year's time has made me realize tht i have to treasure my remaining time as a student. oops. karen's reaching, i gotta go!

fugly blog
im viewing my blog from my home computer and i realised the viewing dimensions are all wrong. the boxes around my postings and sidebar is out of shape, and some butterflies on the right are hidden by the box. and i have to scroll both vertically and horizontally to view the entire blog. the whole thing is supposed to be visible without the need to scroll.
i was gonna scream out an exclamation in frustration. but i decided i shoudnt jinx it. it could come true. take a guess.

dump it
i was blissfully chatting online last night when the screen turned blue. lots of terminology which i didnt understand popped up. the only word i remembered seeing was 'kernal'... yeah. and then this frightening line appeared at the bottom
'dumping of physical memory'.
that surely isnt something good yeah?! i tried restarting my laptop but it wouldnt respond. then an even scarier line appeared
'dumping of physical memory complete'
WTF??! all i did was chat online! it wasnt a virus, im pretty sure. ive a fierce anti-virus program going full-force, and i wasnt downloading any programs anyway.
attempts at restarting the lappie produced one curt message immediately after the fujitsu welcome page
'Operating System not detected'
my windows flew out the window (sorry, couldnt resist it) while i was chatting??
i tried using the Recovery CD provided by Fujitsu for dire emergencies like these. it's supposed to contain a backup copy of Windows XP and install it in. promising whirring sounds and more computer terminology onscreen later,
'hard disk cannot be found'
and so it is unable to install my OS in the first place. so, great. apparently while i was chatting online, my hard disk disappeared too.
looks like ill have to replace a hard disk ASAP as school reopens on monday for me. impeccable timing i must say.
getting a new hard disk means that, other than the huge cash outlay, ill lose all data on my laptop. well, technically i've already lost them so there's no point crying over spilt milk ya? (it's easy to say this cos i'd saved the really important stuff earlier in the year already. they actually only consist of about 50 photos.) the lost music files can be re-downloaded. the lost pictures can be retrieved from friends. photos i'd taken with my own camera are thankfully still in the memory card. and there's no work lost cos there's no work yet cos school has not started as of now. hmm. probably the only thing i would wanna save if i had the chance to is some word documents i'd cut and pasted from my past blogs. i like to chronicle my life in my diaries and lately ive found them another use too. as evidence. don't ask.
i couldnt sleep until 4am. and fitfully too. i had this throbbing headache and i rarely get headaches. dont think it's stress caused by the laptop crash though, cos i was strangely unaffected when it happened last night. i think even now im not as vexed as i would normally have been, or as i was when sth similar happened in the past.
and i had a REALLY weird dream last night. nothing scary, well, not in the gory way anyway. involved some girls i dont know, a girl i know, her grandparents (whom i dont know, and whom i dont even know if are alive), glitter, swimming pools, me shitting (wtf?!), oh, me shitting in front of ppl (i can hear you go "WTF?!" now) and me watching a movie about coal miners alone.
i kinda envy my laptop now. i wish i could say this too,
"dumping of physical memory COMPLETE"

brain dead
all i did today was do stuff online and go out for dinner with my parents. why the hell am i so tired? i must be getting old. further proof: i just wanna shower, flop on my belly and read my book, then sleep. i must really be getting old.
skip me, pass me over
how i regret not going for another sakae buffet today. i wasnt hungry then, but now im famished. and im stuck at home. i guess it's microwaved lasagne then.
im totally jian bu de ren today. i look like an anaemic hospital patient who hasnt had a good night's sleep in days.
i had a scary dream last night. i was in some guy's car, some guy whom i dont actually know in real life. in his car, he had numerous rectangular slabs of concrete with human figurines sticking out of them (think phoebe's awful painting with the doll sticking out of it in Friends, but much smaller in size) propped up on his dashboard. each doll was mutilated in a different way. it was like some death hall of fame or sth. there were so many dolls and even though i was absolutely aghast, i couldnt tear my eyes away from each one as he pointed to them. the only one tht i can still see clearly now in my mind's eye is a doll pricked with needles all over its body. it's totally blood-splattered.
it's weird how i frequently have frightening dreams. i havent even told you guys yet abt the one with falling babies and baby-eating midget monsters. i do have normal dreams yknow, but it's weirder how i dont remember them nearly as vividly when i wake up as the scary ones. these scary dreams dont really scare me actually. the ones tht freak me out are the suicide ones (of others) and the ones in which ppl i love die. i dont take any of these dreams literally cos i believe dreams are a representation of sth else, perhaps a metaphor for sth tht the dreamer is currently bothered about or a situation tht he/she is going through. and anyway i dont think dying has to represent sth morbid at all.
i dont think im a disturbed person. not disturbed in the mentally unsound, quick-get-a-psychiatrist kinda way anyway. if you insist, you can say i have some demons inside my soul, some skeletons hiding in the closet. but doesnt everyone. i guess tht's probably the closest literal meaning you can draw out of it. ;)
oh, and i decided it's too close to dinnertime to have a lasagne... im having a lo mai kai in hae bee hiam flavour!

why cant i
true freedom is when you have nothing left to lose
i realise i dont do things cos i really DO want to anymore. rather, it's with the mentality tht i have nothing to lose anyway. when ive vaguely ascertained tht the consequences are not gonna hurt anybody, it's the "why not?" thinking tht propels me to do anything, go anywhere, eat everything and say whatever.
i did sth weird a couple of days back. i offered this lil girl the ice cream i was eating. she actually opened her mouth and i actually let her have a lick. her mother, no longer distracted by the bags on sale, was so shocked she didnt know wht to say. her mouth was this wide O-shape. the friend with me was similarly surprised. she wisely pulled me away before the mother could scream...

stila girl for a day
thanks to xinying, i was stila made-up girl today!
yep, made-up, not make-up.
i got to have the latest fall colours painted on my face AND take home products worth abt a hundred bucks in a pretty stila paper bag. i got the 'angel light' uv base sunscreen which i was eyeing earlier at the counter, the convertible lash + line and the new lip pot. i was hoping i would receive the rouge pot for cheek which xinying calls the 'cheek mousse'. the blusher feels like velvet! how gorgeous is tht?! but well, no complaints here :D
despite being made beautiful, ive decided to stay at home tonight. no partying for me on this ladies night. (i win. jillian owes me a lunch treat)

im a nerd
my very bones were trembling. i knew what was going to be there when i reached the top. i can almost see it, i can almost feel it in my hands. i clutched my bag tighter. my toes were wriggling with pleasure. i can actually hear my heart pounding in my chest... the escalator was bringing me steadily higher... and closer...
MPH
lots of things i love. but do you know.. the thing tht gets me all excited, all fired up, and all sweaty...
is books.
im a nerd. books make me really, really happy. piles of unread treasures have the same effect on me as an inebriated night out with the girls. i get high. MPH doesnt help, really they dont. they have this horrible habit of pushing all their newly-published and best sellers into one irresistable pile 5 steps from the entrance. what was i supposed to do? avert my eyes? worse. they have "20% Discount" painted in bold, bright red on their glass doors, on placards hanging over every shelf, on posters, on the counter. it's uncanny... it's almost as if they know i cant pass up a good bargain.
so anyway i bought two lovely new books which were NOT on discount (isnt it always like tht). they're sitting by my bedside and ive been grinning ever since.
* * *
so did you guys watch Friends last night? so what will it be?
Food or Sex?
or in my case: Food, Sex or Books?

da dum daaah
i bought inline skates yesterday at the skateline shop near my hse. turns out tht the salesguy there is a freshie at ntu which means he's the same age as me. he's gonna be studying accountancy and is gonna stay at hall 9. he's attending the hall 9 orientation camp too. he asked how we juggle our modules, if ive done my professional attachment, where i did it etcetcetc. we talked while i tried on my blades and protective gear and stumbled ard the shop and purchased the stuff and left. then i realised i dont know his name. and i forgot my carrying strap. damn.
the sun was great today so i went tanning alone at the swimming complex. the thing i love abt the place i go to is tht there are so many other ppl tanning too tht i dont feel self-conscious. at any one time there will be at least 10 other sun-worshippers just like me! there're always, always more guys than girls. the ratio of guys to girls is roughly 4:1. the thing tht makes me uncomfortable is tht many of them have such PERKY butts even when theyre lying face down!! and NO, it isnt a good thing, cos i know most of these guys are gay (i dont know why they dont seem to need to work on weekdays though. it's anybody's guess ;P). oh and it's also safe cos most of them are gay. the guys who ogle are usually repressed secondary school boys anyway. ah, im rambling.
dinner beckons.

Things I Managed To Do Yesterday
- chase a group of errant volleyball-playing kids away from our oiled beings
- kept the rain away while we were at sentosa (it never rains when winnie's at sentosa!)
- walked across the sentosa bridge even though there was no walkway
- stayed alive while crossing tht damn bridge
- restored mich's faith in sakae sushi
- ate until i got my money's worth at the sakae buffet
- eat dinner after buffet
- scored a great bag at 60% discount
- pissed my mom off
- bought cheap tops (by cheap i mean like $8 apiece)
- resisted buying more shoes
- stared down a hum-sup uncle
- not let the little things bother me

talk abt the sun
This Diary Will Change Your Life 2004 (12 July 2004)
TODAY SPEND AS MUCH TIME AS POSSIBLE IN THE SUN.
You are a precious flower. Or a delicate bud perhaps? No, no, rather, you are like a beautiful as yet undeveloped photograph, that will perish without light. Why all those endless hours wasted in the preternatural gloom of your sordid little place of work? Stroll, or sit outside for a couple of hours today and enjoy the sun's golden rays. SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a clinically diagnosed condition in which the lack of sunlight in winter literally makes people ill. It affects millions of people around the world, though proportionately more the further you get from the Equator of course. In the more remote parts of Scandinavia, it has been known to contribute to higher suicide rates. SAD's effects can be explained with reference to the importance of sunlight on cellular functioning. As light enters the eye, it hits the retina and filters through to the pineal gland. The pineal gland in turn produces melatonin, a neurotransmitter that affects the hypothalamus gland. The hypothalamus controls a while range of vital functions, including mood, hormones, appetite, libido and metabolism. Beyond this, sunlight is also crucial as an indirect provider of Vitamin D. The sun's ultraviolet rays set off its production, itself necessary for the absorption of calcium in the bones and teeth. Indeed, vitamin D deficiency among those who spend too much time indoors, can lead to brittle bones and fractures.

encouraged by wht i read, and was tasked to do, in my organizer (see above), mich and i went to sentosa today. there was no sun.

i can talk talk talk
my dad called singtel and changed my plan to iOnePlus which means FREE INCOMING ALL DAY ALL NIGHT! i love daddy! (as if i need another reason to)
the only mini downside is tht radiation from handphones reportedly affects your brain, making you more prone to memory loss... i do already have this "slight" short-term memory loss thing going on for some time... like for example, i need to stop and think where i went and wht i did the night before cos it's like a white screen in my mind.
ah freak, pass me the gingko biloba and yak away!!

foodie
today we went for nonya high-tea. we ate till we were the only table left in the coffee house. okay, I ate while my family looked on. i had one round of everything on the buffet tables and then second helpings of the really yummy stuff. like the chicken wings. i had 4. and the chapatis. i had 5. and when it was apparent tht we were overstaying our welcome (they started handing out the bills to the few lingering tables), my parents started chastising me. i was about to tuck into a plateful of nasi lemak, chicken wings, putu mayam and toasted bread with butter (i mix my appetizers with main courses with desserts).
i hate eating under pressure. im the first to admit tht im a slow eater. i mean, wht's the big rush? food is meant to be savoured! i say, LIVE TO EAT!! oh, and i get indigestion if i speed-eat.
anyway by the time i'd crammed the food into me, we were the only table left. i went to the loo to wash my oily fingers while my mom waited for me. as she pulled me out of the restaurant, she relayed how the manager had asked a waitress if she'd "told them yet". the girl replied, "no, she went to the toilet" and the manager was baffled. she pulled him into the kitchen and my mom assumes tht she told him she wasnt able to chase me away cos i'd gone to the toilet. my poor mother was so embarrassed tht her daughter is always at the center of unwanted attention of restaurant staff (sth similar happened at another high tea).
all i can say is, i love their chapati!

freshies and fishies
today cherm, karen and i crashed the first day of the NUS union camp. we wanted to pretend tht we were freshies and concocted lies abt how we are enrolling into the law faculty. the ACJC guys from our batch who were real freshies had to be silenced (though quite unsuccessfully if i might say so). in the end i think most of the camp leaders found out and i dont think they were too happy tht we were not participating as actively as they would have liked. cos we kept giving the real freshies chance to play. after all, they paid for the camp and we didnt. the solitary free lunch we had today already made us feel so paiseh.. but like wht karen said, there is no such thing as a free lunch.. we 'paid' for it by running ard the freaking huge campus in the drizzle amidst the construction works with the rest of the group during 'cluedo'. and we did their cheers and stuff also. the freshies were totally dead man.. by late afternoon we were all so sian tht we decided not to even stay for the closing scene in 'cluedo'. and due to unforseen circumstances, we didnt sleep over in cherm's hall like we planned to. i lugged my huge bag all the way to NUS and all the way home again in the same day. oh but we had milo elephant at fong seng!
and on my way home, i took this bus route tht ive not taken for perhaps a year plus, and realised tht the shop behind the bustop i alight at to change buses is different! okay i know this is like completely trivial rite? but no! cos the shop tht used to be there was this fascinating antique clock shop. they had clocks hung on every spare space on their walls and grandfather clocks crammed into every corner and which chimed every hour. i used to gaze into tht old decrepit shop and the sea of brown clocks while waiting for my bus.
and today, tht sea of brown turned into a sea of blue. the walls were painted a bright aquatic blue and abt 20 fishtanks adorned both walls. the most interested thing abt the shop was the TYPE of fishies they were selling. the one tht caught my eye first was this multicoloured fishie. it's more like technicoloured actually. there was this metallic sheen on its coloured scales even! the shopowner said it's like a parrot. then this other fishie caught my eye. it had 2 miniscule shrek-like ears! yknow the trumpet-like things protruding out of the top of its head?? and it had a long flat face and super-puffy lips. it was horrendous! it looked like a cow!! imagine a cow face on a lil yellow fishie!! i saw a couple more weird fishies but i cant rem them now cos my mind is preoccupied with images of the parrotfishie and the fugly cowfishie. i tell you, all these weird creatures were in the ONE fishtank i looked at.. i wonder wht other specimens are in the manymore fishtanks inside the shop.. this shop is MORE fascinating than the previous one any day..
maybe im suaku lah, ive never seen fishies like tht! the store uncle had to tell me tht my bus was here cos i was busy peering into the fishtank hoping for another glimpse of the parrot fish.
alrights tht's all for now.. im so so tired, i think i will sleep now. more updates soon.

and today, tht sea of brown turned into a sea of blue. the walls were painted a bright aquatic blue and abt 20 fishtanks adorned both walls. the most interested thing abt the shop was the TYPE of fishies they were selling. the one tht caught my eye first was this multicoloured fishie. it's more like technicoloured actually. there was this metallic sheen on its coloured scales even! the shopowner said it's like a parrot. then this other fishie caught my eye. it had 2 miniscule shrek-like ears! yknow the trumpet-like things protruding out of the top of its head?? and it had a long flat face and super-puffy lips. it was horrendous! it looked like a cow!! imagine a cow face on a lil yellow fishie!! i saw a couple more weird fishies but i cant rem them now cos my mind is preoccupied with images of the parrotfishie and the fugly cowfishie. i tell you, all these weird creatures were in the ONE fishtank i looked at.. i wonder wht other specimens are in the manymore fishtanks inside the shop.. this shop is MORE fascinating than the previous one any day..
maybe im suaku lah, ive never seen fishies like tht! the store uncle had to tell me tht my bus was here cos i was busy peering into the fishtank hoping for another glimpse of the parrot fish.

i feel...
- cranky
- like having thick creamy potato-laden curry
- like going to the beach
- like tanning
- sleepy
- i need to get my adrenaline pumping
- cranky
- crabby
- like crying
- like shopping
- lost
- like singing in the shower
- resigned
- like soaking in a perfumed jacuzzi
- like i cant breathe properly
- sick of life
