Shock #1: the man who would be king
celebrity fairytale marriage + sordid affairs + titillating interviews + handsome children+ dramatic car crash and subsequent death = explosive public interest and discussion
add royalty to the mix and it captures the world's attention and imagination, and of course, unprecedented newspaper sales.
apparently april is the month to look out for. that's when the two most unattractive ones in the whole brouhaha are getting hitched. that's what makes it all the more intriguing isn't it? dumping the beautiful wife for the ugly soulmate. the children having to acknowledge the woman who tore their parents' marriage apart as stepmother. the whole sordid courtship revealed in techni-colour glory (honestly, we didnt have to know about the tampon story) and rehashed in chronological, thematic and photo-essay versions. true love prevails? who cares.
what really caught my attention was how the british public reacted to the news of the marriage. it seems that prince charles' approval ratings have been falling in recent polls and less britains now want him to be the next in line for the crown.
which means that prince william will have to be the next in line right?
this scares the freaking shit out of me.
you see, back in 1997 someone had already predicted this.
when princess diana passed away leaving her two boys behind, the british papers and magazines went on a rampage printing stories from every possible angle and in true tabloid fashion, they asked some 'renowned' psychics what they 'see' in the princes' futures.
one psychic claimed that prince charles would, due to popular public demand, abdicate his right to the throne to make way for prince william.
in my mind i was thinking "yea, right. we'll see"
now that this actually seems to be quite a plausible outcome, i dont know what to think.
coincidence? or is there something more?
i'd always thought, or wanted to believe, that psychics are all fakes. like magicians, they find some way to trick you into believing their illusions and lies. they do their homework on you before they perform their hocus-pocus. it's for people who want to believe.
but. it's not happening yet. yet or even at all.
i guess we still have some time (or lifetime. queen e's lifetime. heh.) to find out the outcome before i let my imagination run wild and question some of my own beliefs.
for the sake of my mental health, prince charles had better not buckle.
